Louisiana State Pin

Louisiana is a coastal state whose wetlands are inhabited by the strikingly beautiful Blue Heron. Our state pin is modeled on a 1732 engraving by artist Mark Catesby, Little Blue Heron. The Louisiana Society owns an original print, which appeared in Catesby’s The Natural History of Carolina, Florida, and the Bahama Islands, a compendium of 220 prints with descriptive text. It graces the wall of Louisiana House.
